I really want it, but it’s expensive.
Today, September 4th, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold was released, following the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL .
This is Google’s second-generation foldable smartphone, and there are many improvements over the first generation .
The annualsmartphoe editorial team was one of the first to receive the device, so we’ll take our time to unpack it.
This is the appearance of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold package. The color is Porcelain , which is a shade between white and cream .
The packaging for the Google Pixel 9 series is said to be 100% plastic-free .
When I opened the box, the letter G from Google appeared. It was so exciting.
After flipping over the included film, we finally get to see the long-awaited Pixel 9 Pro Fold. From this perspective, we can see that it has an overall rounded design.
Very thin and light
Take a look. The biggest feature of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is how thin it is .
When the display is unfolded, it is 5.1mm thick , and when you actually hold it in your hand, it feels flimsy than you would imagine. If it’s this thin, it makes you worry that it might bend in the opposite direction.
Even when folded like this, you can see that it’s only slightly thicker (2mm to be exact) than the non-folding phone in the same series, the Pixel 9 Pro XL.
The USB-C port is starting to look a bit cramped. It might not be long before smartphones no longer have ports.
The aspect ratio has been changed, which is nice.
Let’s take a look at the inner display, which is the biggest attraction of foldable smartphones .
Compared to the first model , which had a rectangular aspect ratio , the new model is closer to a square.
The bezel is thinner and the size has increased to 8 inches . The peak brightness is 2,700 nits , making it brighter and easier to see than the first generation.
The outer display is also a large 6.3 inches, so when folded it feels like you’re using a “normal smartphone.”
It also felt more like a “normal smartphone” when I put it in my trouser pocket. It was so heavy and thick that I couldn’t believe I was carrying a flip phone.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL weighs 221g, while the Pixel 9 Pro Fold weighs 257g .
By changing the material from stainless steel in the previous model to aluminum, we have achieved a significant weight reduction from 283 g.
