iPhone Air 17 to be thinner than expected and come without a physical SIM card slot

It has long been rumored that Apple will make a significant change to its iPhone lineup next year and release an “Air” model. According to the latest information , the iPhone 17 Air model stands out with its thickness of only 5-6 mm. This will make the iPhone 17 Air the thinnest iPhone model ever produced.

For comparison, the current iPhone 16 models are 7.8 mm thick, while the iPhone 16 Pro models are 8.25 mm thick. Apple is said to have taken inspiration from the 5.1 mm thick iPad Pro design for this new model.

The iPhone 17 Air’s slim design also brings with it some hardware changes. First of all, the device will not have a physical SIM card slot, which will require the use of eSIM technology. In addition, the device will only have one speaker, and this speaker at the bottom will be used as a receiver.

On the modem side, Apple plans to use a smaller, more energy-efficient modem of its own design instead of Qualcomm’s. However, this modem will not support mmWave and will perform less well than Qualcomm chips at general data rates.

Battery capacity is another cost of the thin design. The iPhone 17 Air will have a smaller battery than current iPhone models. The battery capacity of the device is expected to be lower than the 3561 mAh battery found in the iPhone 16.

iPhone 17 Air to come with 6.6-inch display

The technical specifications of the iPhone 17 Air include a 6.6-inch screen, aluminum frame, A19 processor, Face ID and Dynamic Island support. There will be a single 48 MP resolution camera on the back and a 24 MP selfie camera on the front. The device is expected to come with 8 GB of RAM.

The rear camera will reportedly be located in a large camera bump in the middle of the device. The iPhone 17 Air is planned to be introduced in September 2025, alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
