KUMI U5 Pro Smartwatch Review

Today we will talk about the KUMI U5 Pro smart watch. This smart watch is made very well. The smart watch has a bright AMOLED display with a diagonal of 1.43 inches (resolution 466 * 466), a capacious battery (470 mAh), due to which the battery life can reach seven days. But that’s not all. The KUMI U5 Pro smart watch has a built-in, dual-band GPS receiver, which allows you to keep logs of the route taken even without pairing with a smartphone. In addition to GPS, there is also a barometer and a magnetometer, which are also not often found in smart watches.

There are also some “trendy” features, which include the Ernie Bot chat bot, as well as the function of automatic drawing of dials, by voice request to AI. Plus, of course, the “traditional” functionality of smart watches is available, such as measuring pulse, blood oxygen levels, the presence of various training programs, and other features. Smart watches can be used as a Bluetooth headset.

Specifications

I have already provided the basic information about the watch in the introduction, and I suggest you familiarize yourself with its structured version by referring to the seller’s slide.

Additionally, I would like to note that the watch case was tested according to the MIL-STD-810H standard.

The dimensions of the watch are as follows: 50.2mm*49mm*15.6mm.

The watch case is waterproof (5 ATM), the case material is zinc alloy. Corning Glass is used to protect the screen. The strap is silicone, 22 mm wide.

Unboxing

Smart watches are sold in a branded box. The box contains information about the specifications and distinctive features of the product.

The package looks like this:

As we can see, in addition to the watch itself, there is an instruction manual and a docking station for charging, which is, by the way, a very convenient thing.

The smart watch case is made very well, in appearance they are in no way inferior to the products of famous manufacturers. It is quite thick, but this is essentially the price to pay for a capacious battery.

Product Features

Since the case is made of zinc alloy, the weight of the smart watch is almost 90 grams. The thickness of the case is 14.5 mm. The width of the silicone strap is 22 mm. The strap is soft and bends well. The buckle is made of zinc alloy. The smart watch looks great on the hand.

Let’s look at managing smart watches.

There are three buttons on the smart watch case for control. All of them are located on the right side. Control can also be carried out using the touchscreen. For symmetry, the left side of the case has imitation buttons, in my opinion, this is a good solution.

In the middle there is a button in the form of a head, it is the largest of the three. Moreover, the head rotates smoothly, and the sound from the rotation is similar to the sound when using the head of a mechanical watch. If you rotate the head, the main screen themes will switch. If you press the head, the main menu of the smart watch will open.

The top button is used to turn the watch on/off, to reboot, to turn the screen on/off, and it works as a back button.

The bottom button is designed specifically for going back, but it can be reprogrammed for other functionality, which is very convenient.

The Corning Glass above the screen is slightly recessed into the case, which means that most impacts will fall on the case rather than the glass.

As for the translation of the menu into Russian, it is done completely correctly. The same fonts are used as when working with the menu in English, and they are pleasant to perceive.

This is what the main menu looks like in English and Russian respectively.

In the settings submenu, you can set parameters such as brightness, sound volume and vibration strength, change the theme, and make other changes, including setting a password for the smartwatch.

Smart watches can be controlled without any problems using the touchscreen.

SMS are displayed on the screen in a well-readable form, and SMS in Russian are also readable. The call log also looks good. You can dial a number directly from the smartwatch itself, and then talk through it. The sound quality during a conversation is normal (in both directions). You can import individual contacts from the phone book into the smartwatch, or all at once. For example, I imported one of the contacts.

The smartwatch screen is really high-quality. It is a bright and clear display made using AMOLED technology. From the factory, the screen brightness is set to only 40%, and this is almost always enough even when viewing the screen outdoors. In bright sunlight, you can quickly increase the screen brightness, which is adjustable in 5 gradations. Automatic screen brightness adjustment is not provided.

Since the screen resolution here is 466*466 pixels, while its diagonal is 1.43 inches, the picture quality is very good. The screen is round, but everything is perfectly optimized for it. The touchscreen works great, and with it you can accurately and the first time click even on small icons.

The hardware component of the smart watch is apparently quite productive for this niche. The interface works quickly, some elements are made as a running line, some are animated. The software part is apparently also well optimized, and really forms a single whole with the hardware part.

The manufacturer decided to keep up with the fashion and built ChatGPT (Ernie Bot) into this smartwatch model, and the option really works, and what’s more, the system perfectly understands requests in Russian, and gives the correct answer to them. To be able to interact with ChatGPT and through the watch via BT, a speaker and two microphones are installed in the case.

Example of a request to ChatCPT, and the system response:

All previously completed requests and responses to them can be read in the appendix.

There is also the possibility of creating new watch faces using AI.

Examples of generated dials for queries “spaceship”, “piece of bread”:

An example of how a barometer and compass work:

The watch has a built-in GPS receiver. The recording of movement data starts automatically if you select one of the workouts that involves movement, such as walking outside. If the watch is paired with a phone, the phone’s GPS receiver will always be used. If you break the pairing or turn off the GPS on the phone, the watch will use its GPS receiver, and the track can later be viewed in the application when the smartwatch is paired with the phone again.

To pair with a smart watch, use the KUMI Ultra AL application. It is well thought out in terms of functionality and its structure, but the translation into Russian was apparently done automatically in places. Pairing with a smart watch is easy (QR code), then the application itself will tell you what permissions are needed and what they are needed for. After you have given or not given permission, you need to register an account and configure the user profile settings.

In order for the smartwatch to switch from English to Russian, you need to set the language through the application. I did not find such an option on the smartwatch itself.

Let’s look at the app’s capabilities. Namely, let’s look at the “Device” tab. The difficulties of automatic translation immediately catch the eye.

The section “Drinking reminder” is especially jarring. It is of course clear that it implies the need for constant water consumption during training, but the automatic translator has greatly distorted the original meaning.

There are no special questions about the translation into Russian in the “I” section. Of course, there are “hierarch” moments, but these are all minor details, although I don’t understand why they added a section on women’s health, especially if I indicated male gender in my profile…

The “Sport” section pleased me, everything is intuitive and neat there, I wish it were always like this. There are also logs of the exercises performed.

In the “Main Page” section, you can configure the settings for the displayed parameters (which ones to display). I displayed “Blood Oxygen Level” and “Pulse”, in addition to the target indicators.

In terms of battery life, the KUMI U5 Pro smartwatch lasted me exactly a week without recharging, as stated. Of course, in some cases the battery life may be slightly less, because it depends on the settings and operating parameters of a specific user, but I think the smartwatch will work for about 5-6 days in most cases, and this is a solid indicator, because you will not have to charge it too often.

Conclusions

The KUMI U5 PRO smart watch is a very high-quality and functional product. The case of the device is interestingly made, and in my opinion, the design here is no worse than that of similar devices from more famous manufacturers. The watch works quickly, which indicates good hardware performance and good software optimization. I cannot help but note the bright AMOLED display with a good diagonal by the standards of smart watches, capable of providing very good picture quality, with a long battery life, thanks to the capacious battery and well-executed optimizations. The translation into Russian of the main menu of the smart watch is done well. I can only attribute the automatic translation in the application to minor disadvantages, but perhaps this will be corrected soon. Due to the fairly large thickness of the case and the very noticeable weight of the smart watch, perhaps not everyone will like it.
