Samsung Galaxy S25: Everything We Know So Far

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series was unveiled in mid-January 2024. With it, the company showed off Galaxy AI, a titanium frame, updated camera features, and a host of other innovations. But now it’s time to think about the next series.

How will the Galaxy S25 differ from the Galaxy S24? What new features will Samsung offer in the next generation? Will there be significant changes to the design of the Galaxy S series in 2025? Let’s take a look at everything we know about the Galaxy S25 so far.

Will there be a Samsung Galaxy S25?

Samsung releases new Galaxy S series smartphones every year, and there is no reason to believe that they will stop with the Galaxy S24. In addition, there have already been numerous leaks and rumors about the upcoming generation, which we will talk about later. Of course, all this is not official information until Samsung confirms or denies it. Theoretically, the company could suddenly stop development, but this is extremely unlikely given the success of its smartphones. Here, the question is not whether the Samsung Galaxy S25 will be released, but when it will be released in 2025.

What is the most likely release date for the Samsung Galaxy S25?

1) Galaxy S22 – February 9, 2022;
2) Galaxy S23 – February 17, 2023;
3) Galaxy S24 – January 31, 2024.

There are no leaks or rumors about the new device at the moment, so we can only guess about the possible release date.

The South Korean company usually releases its Galaxy S series devices at the beginning of the year, and for the past three years, this has happened in January or February. Samsung will probably keep the same schedule for the Galaxy S25 as well. However, we have yet to find out the exact date.

What are the expected specs and features of the Samsung Galaxy S25?

Even before the Galaxy S24 was due to launch in January 2024, rumors about the Galaxy S25 began to surface. Now that some time has passed since the 2024 lineup was released, the rumor mill has intensified regarding the next-gen devices. These leaks cover everything from the processor to the design and more. Let’s take a closer look at all the available information.

Name

The Galaxy S25 series is expected to include the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra models as Samsung has been using this naming system since the Galaxy S20 series.
However, on August 16, tipster Yogesh Brar shared an interesting piece of information. He claimed that Samsung is considering changing the names of the Plus and Ultra models. According to Brar, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could be called the Galaxy S25 Note, while the S25 Plus could be renamed as the S25 Pro.

Earlier, we saw Apple unveil the iPhone 15 Pro with more features than the iPhone 15 Plus. So, it can be assumed that the S25 Pro will have more advanced specifications than the S25 Plus.

Design

The Galaxy S series hasn’t changed much in design in recent years, but it’s possible that the next iteration will finally bring something new.
For example, Revegnus reported that Ilhwan Lee, a former Mercedes-Benz designer, has been tasked with refreshing the look of the Galaxy brand.

With the launch of Samsung’s flagships in 2024, the company will use titanium for the first time in the Galaxy S lineup. Samsung will likely continue to use the material in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but it remains to be seen whether the company will keep the same type of titanium used in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. For the record, Apple uses grade 5 titanium, which is alloyed with aluminum and vanadium, in the iPhone 15 Pro, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra uses grade 2 titanium. Grade 2 titanium is softer, cheaper, and easier to machine than grade 5 titanium. If PandaFlash is right, Samsung will likely stick with this path.

Another rumor, also from a deleted PandaFlash post, suggests that Samsung is testing four prototypes of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. While the tipster didn’t provide renders, he did create mockups showing what the Ultra could look like based on the information he has. The main changes are expected to be in the frames and bezels. Possible options include thinner bezels, a flat and thin frame with reduced bezels, thinner side edges and thicker top and bottom, or a frame with curved edges. Otherwise, the front of the device could remain similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Tipster Ice Universe claimed in late June that the Galaxy S25 Ultra could feature a more rounded design, comparing it to the Galaxy Note 7. He also claimed that the device would be 8.4mm thick, making it thinner than all previous Ultra models. He later added that the frame would be curved towards the back and straight on the display side, making it thinner than the Galaxy S24 Ultra and reducing the side bezels. Ice Universe also posted a mockup of the front of the Galaxy S25 Ultra in August, showing a more rounded design and comparing it to the more square Galaxy S24 Ultra.

On August 17, Ice Universe posted the alleged screen size of the Galaxy S25 Ultra on Weibo, claiming it will measure 6.86 inches.

A recent post from Ice Universe also suggests that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be the “thinnest and lightest Ultra flagship yet,” beating out the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pixel 9 Pro XL. For comparison, the Pixel 9 Pro XL weighs around 221 grams, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra weighs 233 grams. If these claims are true, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could lose over 10 grams, which would be a significant achievement for Samsung.

It’s not just the Ultra model that is rumored to be getting a design change. Korean blogger yeux1122 claimed on Naver that the screen size of the base model of the Galaxy S25 could increase to 6.36 inches. If true, this would be the second time in the last three generations that Samsung has increased the screen size of the base model.

Characteristics

One of the first leaks about the Galaxy S25 was the camera specs. There was talk of switching to a triple-lens system and upgrading the main lens to 200MP. However, over time, many of these rumors have been debunked. The latest data points to several improvements to the Galaxy S25 Ultra camera, but not a complete redesign.

On May 27, leaker Ice Universe shared the supposed specs of the Galaxy S25 Ultra camera on Weibo. According to his data, the smartphone will retain the 200-megapixel main camera and 50-megapixel 5x periscope telephoto lens, but will receive a 50-megapixel 3x camera and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens.
Later, insider Sperandio4Tech clarified that the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s ultra-wide-angle camera could get an updated 1/2.76-inch JN1 sensor, while the 3x telephoto lens could get a new 1/3-inch Isocell sensor. These upgrades will be combined with the already mentioned 50MP resolution increase for both lenses.

On June 27, it was revealed that the sensor for the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus will likely be the ISCOELL GNJ, which corresponds to a 1/1.57-inch sensor size similar to the one used in the S24 and S24 Plus.

As for the display, there is little information yet, but rumors have it that the S25 series could get bigger. Samsung is working on next-generation OLED displays that will allow fingerprint scanning across the entire screen and the use of multiple fingerprints at once. Isorg CEO Dieter May predicted that Samsung will be ready to ship such displays in 2025.

On August 1, at Samsung’s Q2 2024 earnings call, company spokesperson Daniel Araujo promised “top-end” camera and display upgrades in the Galaxy S25 series, although he did not provide specific details.

The most significant rumors about the Galaxy S25 concern the processors. Samsung returned to the tradition of using Snapdragon processors for select markets and Exynos for others with the launch of the S24. However, some rumors suggest that Samsung may go back to using Snapdragon only in 2025 due to production issues with the Exynos 2500, which was supposed to be used in the Galaxy S25. Samsung may also be considering using MediaTek Dimensity SoC for some models, but this is less likely.

In September 2024, a Korean publication reported that the Galaxy S25 series will exclusively use Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chips, and this processor will be specifically optimized for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. If Samsung does go with Snapdragon, it could significantly improve the performance of the Galaxy S25.

In terms of battery, Samsung may be planning to use stacking technology, commonly used in electric vehicles, to improve the energy density of the batteries in the S25 series. It is expected that such technology could increase the energy density by 10%. According to GalaxyClub, the standard Galaxy S25 will likely retain the 4,000mAh battery capacity of the Galaxy S24, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging, according to Digital Chat Station.

In terms of RAM, the base Galaxy S25 will likely feature 8GB of RAM again, as claimed by leaker Ice Universe. However, Samsung Semiconductor is planning to release a new generation of UFS storage with double the read/write speeds in 2025, which could significantly improve the device’s performance.

What could be the price of Samsung Galaxy S25?

1) Galaxy S22 — $799 (base), $999 (Plus), $1,199 (Ultra);
2) Galaxy S23 — $799 (base), $999 (Plus), $1,199 (Ultra);
3) Galaxy S24 — $799 (base), $999 (Plus), $1,299 (Ultra).

When it comes to pricing, Samsung has been fairly consistent in recent years. Specifically, the base and Plus models have remained at $799 and $999, respectively, for three years. The only change was the Ultra, which went up $100 in 2024. If we had to make a prediction, we’d expect the price to stay at the 2024 level.

Should we expect the Samsung Galaxy S25?

If you don’t care about having the latest Samsung model, there’s no point in waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S25. However, if you’re thinking about buying a new flagship from Samsung, without a pressing need to buy it right now – wait for the Galaxy S25 series.
