Realme has kicked off 2024 with the launch of the new Realme 12 series, featuring the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+, with an emphasis on stylish design and high-quality cameras. The QUK team has prepared a quick review of the Realme 12 Pro.
Delivery set
The box is yellow as always, recognizable. The Realme 12 Pro package includes:
1. Smartphone
2. Documentation
3. Paper clip for opening the tray
4. Protective case
5. USB-Type – C cable
6. Network charger
7. Protective film (glued to the screen)
Design
The Realme 12 Pro offers the user a 6.7-inch curved AMOLED FullHD+ display, which houses a hole for the 16MP selfie camera and a fingerprint scanner that works quickly and accurately, but its placement slightly higher could make unlocking more convenient, in our opinion.
In terms of design, the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ are similar: on the back, there is a 3D Jubilee bracelet that spans the entire length of the back cover and is interrupted by a centrally located camera island.
Like the Realme 12 Pro+, the Realme 12 Pro’s back panel is covered in vegan leather “made from dirt-resistant, high-quality silicone materials” to create a luxurious feel.
The Realme 12 Pro’s camera island is larger than the Realme 11 Pro’s, but it protrudes less than the Pro+’s and matches the color of the back panel. This island is inspired by the idea of a watch face.
The Realme 12 Pro has shiny gold plastic frames. The right side of the device houses the volume rocker and the power button. At the bottom are the USB-C port, SIM card slot, primary microphone, and speaker, while at the top are the secondary microphone and speaker.
The Realme 12 Pro has an IP65 rating, just like the Pro+.
The smartphone is available in two colors – Navigator Beige and Submarine Blue.
Display
The Realme 12 Pro offers a 6.7-inch curved OLED display with a resolution of 2412 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz, as well as a touch sampling rate of 240Hz. This screen is protected by “double reinforced 0.55mm glass” and is capable of reproducing 1.07 billion colors. It also has HDR10, HLG, and Widevine L1 certifications, the latter of which allows for 1080p video recording in supported apps. The Realme 12 Pro’s display reaches a peak brightness of 950 nits, which ensures good visibility outdoors in bright sunlight. The curved design of the screen does not pose any problems.
The Realme 12 Pro offers three refresh rate options: Automatic, Standard (60Hz), and High (120Hz).
Gamers may be a little disappointed, as almost all the games we tested capped at 60fps.
Battery
The Realme 12 Pro has a 5,000mAh battery, just like the Realme 12 Pro+.
The Realme 12 Pro lasts all day on a single charge with an average screen-on time of around 5 hours with moderate usage at 120Hz refresh rate and Wi-Fi on.
The Realme 12 Pro charges to 18% in 5 minutes, 50% in 20 minutes, and 100% in 54 minutes. The Realme 12 Pro+, which also has a 5,000mAh battery and 67W charging support, charges to 100% in 43 minutes.
Performance and Software
The Realme 12 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor, unlike the Realme 12 Pro+ which uses a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip. The storage options are 8GB/256GB and 12GB/512GB. The smartphone runs Realme UI 5.0 based on Android 14. The Realme 12 Pro comes with third-party apps pre-installed, but most of them can be uninstalled.
Speaking of performance, the Realme 12 Pro performed quite smoothly most of the time. There were some stutters, but nothing severe enough to hinder the user experience. Gaming performance was also quite good even during long gaming sessions. However, as we mentioned, none of the games we played on the Realme 12 Pro ran at more than 60 fps.
Camera
The Realme 12 Pro comes with a quad-camera setup – one at the front and three at the back. The selfie camera on the front uses a 16MP sensor versus the 32MP on the Pro+. It has an f/2.4 aperture and an 83° field of view. The front camera can record 1080p videos at 30fps.
The Realme 12 Pro has three cameras on the back. It’s a combination of a 50MP primary camera, a 32MP telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultra-wide camera (in comparison, the Pro+ has a 50MP primary camera, a 64MP periscope telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultra-wide camera).
The 50MP primary cameras on the Pro and Pro+ are different because the Pro uses a Sony IMX882 sensor. It has OIS, an f/1.8 aperture, and a 26mm focal length. The camera can record 1080p video at 30 and 60 fps, but 4K recording is limited to 30 fps.
Unfortunately, there are some lags in the camera’s operation, but perhaps this problem will be solved.
Overall, the quality of the cameras is good, the pictures are rich and clear. Night shooting was also pleasing, but it is worth noting that regardless of the camera used, some pictures had glare, and the light sources were sometimes overexposed.
Conclusion
The Realme 12 Pro sports a design that outperforms its price range, especially the Submarine Blue version looks very premium. The smartphone has a nice build quality and comes with a quality display, it also pleases us with a 5000 mAh battery. It takes a little over 50 minutes to fully charge the battery, which is not bad.
The performance of the Realme 12 Pro is also good, the smartphone works smoothly for the most part (there were some lags when switching between apps and the camera).
The rear cameras of the Realme 12 Pro have an issue with slow processing, but the pictures look decent. The telephoto lens also took good pictures at 4x zoom. Even the images at 6x zoom were not bad.
If you are looking for a smartphone with an attractive premium design, a nice touch and a camera that can take good pictures, then you should consider the Realme 12 Pro.
