The new Pixel is so much like an iPhone that I made a quiz

↑In this top image, which is the Pixel and which is the iPhone?

The Pixel 9 series has a significantly different design from previous Pixel models . The iconic rear camera bar is gone, and the sides are flat instead of rounded. It’s a big change from the Pixel 8 .

So, some of our editors have commented that the design of the Pixel 9 is very similar to the iPhone. I agree. It’s very iPhone-like!

Even in a blind test, I would get it wrong (2 losses)

Let’s compare them and see how similar they are.

On the left is the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and on the right is the Pixel 9 Pro XL. The only difference is the design around the camera.

If you hide the camera, look. The texture of the back is now the same!

Well, smartphone designs tend to be similar in every respect except for the camera, so it may be an exaggeration to say that they are too similar just based on this alone.

The top is the Pixel 9 Pro XL and the bottom is the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

But what about here? The stainless steel side , the design here is also quite similar. If you look closely, you can see that the Pixel 9 Pro XL has rounded edges, but it’s hard to notice unless you touch it carefully.

Although the design of the connectors is different, it’s still hard to tell which is the Pixel and which is the iPhone just by touching it or glancing at it. I got it wrong twice.

They also feel very similar when you hold them. The larger one is the Pixel.

The unbranded model is also iPhone-like

The base model, the Pixel 9, had a similar texture to the original iPhone 14. This is likely due to the glass material on the back and the aluminum bezel .

The texture is somewhat similar to that of the iPhone 15 Pro, which has a titanium bezel. Not only the texture, but the flat bezel makes it look even more iPhone-like.

Personally, I have a rounded impression of Google. Both its services and devices have a soft image (a sense of qualia), but I feel like that has changed with the Pixel 9 series. This design looks like a high-end device, but I can’t help but think that this shape is the convergence evolution of smartphones.
