From Affordable to Premium: Honor 200 Smartphone Line Review

The recently introduced Honor 200 series of smartphones consists of three models, each of which is focused on different market segments: the sub-flagship Honor 200, the flagship Honor 200 Pro and the affordable Honor 200 Lite. All three devices have a modern design, powerful hardware and many new features. Of particular interest are the capabilities of artificial intelligence and new photography features that Honor is actively developing in its devices. Today we will tell you about these models, their main characteristics and differences from each other.

Design

The Honor 200 has a unique design, but similar elements with previous models remain. For example, the oval camera block is similar to a similar block in last year’s Honor 100 Pro . On the back panel of the smartphone there are peculiar patterns, the design of which Honor calls Natural Coastline.

The device is available in four colors: Moonlight White, Emerald Green, Coral Pink, Black. Each color has its own unique character, from the soft glow of moonlight white to the deep and calm black, with romantic coral and emerald green, like the Pacific Ocean, in between. The design of the back panel is inspired by the shapes of the famous building in Barcelona, Casa Mila, designed by Antonio Gaudi.

The phone’s body is only 7.7 mm thick, making it easy to use the smartphone with one hand, despite the large screen diagonal. The screen with four rounded sides deserves special attention. This display design allows for a high screen-to-body ratio, and also has a positive effect on the tactile sensations when using the smartphone.

Display

The Honor 200 boasts a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2664 x 1200 pixels and a pixel density of 435 units per inch. Key features of the display also include support for a 120 Hz refresh rate, as well as HDR for improved color reproduction. The screen supports 1.07 billion colors and has a brightness of 4000 nits. This level is the peak and is unlikely to be achieved in everyday conditions, but rest assured, the Honor 200 display is bright enough to watch movies and read books under the scorching sun somewhere near the sea.

The smartphone uses a proprietary eye protection mode called HONOR Eye Comfort. At the same time, the smartphone uses technologies such as PWM dimming with a frequency of 3840 Hz to reduce eye strain, AI Circadian Night Display for comfortable use at night, and reduced blue light levels. The display has also received TÃœV Rheinland certification for the absence of flickering.

Camera

The cameras in each Honor smartphone are the pride of the company, and they really impress with their capabilities. The main 50-megapixel camera used in the Honor 200 with a large Sony IMX906 sensor is capable of capturing a lot of light even in difficult lighting conditions. Optical image stabilization (OIS) helps to avoid blurring when shooting handheld.

The 50MP telephoto camera with 2.5x optical zoom lets you get closer to your subject without losing quality. This is especially useful when shooting distant objects. The 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, in turn, allows you to capture more objects in the frame, becoming an ideal tool for creating group photos.

The Harcourt portrait mode deserves special attention. The portrait mode is named after the French photography studio Studio Harcourt, which is known for creating black and white portraits of celebrities. The portrait mode, which is inspired by this studio, offers a unique combination of light and shadow, creating portraits as in a professional photo studio. Users can choose between different lighting styles, experimenting with classic black and white or more modern color modes.

Night shooting has not been left without the developers’ attention either. The improved night mode uses artificial intelligence functionality to process images, allowing you to get clear and detailed photos even in low light conditions.

The 50MP front camera keeps up with the main cameras. It not only allows you to take high-quality selfies, but also offers advanced AI portrait processing capabilities, including smart retouching and various bokeh effects.

Performance and uptime

Honor 200 uses the pre-top Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, which is made using a 4-nanometer process technology. This chip, like all Snapdragon chips, has an excellent balance between performance and energy efficiency. Thanks to the use of this processor, the device’s performance has increased by 15%, and energy efficiency by 20. The performance of the Adreno graphics processor has increased by 50%, thanks to which Honor 200 is able to cope with demanding games and applications for photo and video processing. The following memory configurations are available for the user to choose from: 8/256, 12/256, 12/512.

To maintain high performance over a long period of time, especially under heavy loads, the Honor 200 has an advanced cooling system. A large stainless steel evaporation chamber effectively removes heat from the processor, preventing throttling (limiting the maximum clock frequency).

Battery life is another strong point of the Honor 200. The device is equipped with a silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh. Using this type of battery allows you to increase its capacity while maintaining compact dimensions. As a result, the user gets a thin and light smartphone that can work for a whole day.

For quick recharge, the 100W HONOR SuperCharge is used. It can charge the battery up to 49% in just 15 minutes, which is especially convenient in situations where there is no time for a full charge.

Design

Some manufacturers, adding devices with the Pro prefix to the line, often use cases from the younger model, adding improved components. But when creating the Honor 200, the company took a different path. Yes, there is continuity in the design from the base model and last year’s Honor 100 Pro, but the Honor 200 Pro is a completely different device, both in size and design.

The pattern on the back panel is also inspired by nature. The device is available in three colors: Ocean Cyan, Moonlight White and Black. As in the younger model, each color is special – blue (more like turquoise) reminds of the ocean waves, white reflects the softness of moonlight, and black popularizes the classics. The design of the back panel is also inspired by the works of Antonio Gaudi, in particular his famous Casa Mila building.

Display

Honor 200 Pro is equipped with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2700 x 1224 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, support for 1 billion colors and HDR, and a peak brightness of 4000 nits. But the main feature of the screen is not only its size and image quality, but also care for the user’s health. The display with eye protection technologies called HONOR Eye Comfort is certified by TÃœV Rheinland Full Care Display 3.0, which indicates the high safety of the Honor 200 Pro display for users’ eyes.

The smartphone has a Natural Tone 2.0 function, which adapts the color temperature of the screen to the surrounding light, making the use of the device comfortable in any conditions. Particularly noteworthy is the PWM dimming technology with a frequency of 3840 Hz, which minimizes eye strain when using the smartphone in the dark. The AI Circadian Night Display function adapts the color temperature of the screen in the evening, reducing the level of blue light.

Camera

The Honor 200 Pro camera is an unconditional competitor to its counterparts used in smartphones from Google, Apple and Samsung. The device is equipped with a three-camera system, two 50 MP modules and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor. The main H9000 sensor with a size of 1 / 1.3 inches and optical stabilization is capable of creating photos in the highest quality. The telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom is capable of capturing even the most distant objects. The ultra-wide-angle camera with a viewing angle of 112 ° and the ability to take macro shots at a distance of 2.5 cm adds versatility to the Honor 200 Pro camera. The front 50 MP camera also impresses with its capabilities, allowing you to create high-quality selfies and make video calls. The smartphone has the ability to record video in 4K using optical and electronic stabilization.

The portrait mode, developed in collaboration with the famous Studio Harcourt, which we talked about in the Honor 200 review, deserves special attention. Let us remind you that this mode allows you to create professional-level portraits, playing with light and shadow to achieve a unique effect.

It is also worth noting the presence of many shooting modes, including those using AI. The HONOR AI portrait engine is able to study facial features to select the ideal lighting and background. The Honor 200 Pro camera also allows you to switch between HDR modes, thereby bringing photos to life.

Performance and uptime

The Honor 200 Pro uses a powerful 8-core Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, manufactured using a 4-nm process technology, which works in tandem with an Adreno 735 graphics accelerator and 12 GB of RAM. The smartphone also has an HONOR C1 + RF chip, which increases the antenna bandwidth, thereby increasing the 5G speed.

The smartphone has the same silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh as the base model. This smartphone also supports 100 W fast charging, which allows you to charge the smartphone by 50% in just 15 minutes. In addition, the device supports 66 W wireless charging, which can recharge the battery by 64% in 30 minutes.

The innovative All-range Cooling System 2.0 cooling system is used to cool the processor in the smartphone, using an ultra-thin evaporation chamber with a thickness of only 0.3 mm, which effectively removes heat, thereby stabilizing operation even under high loads. For gamers, the smartphone has an increased response speed function. Honor 200 Pro boasts dual stereo speakers with the purest sound and deep bass. Small features include an IR port for controlling equipment, splash and water protection according to the IP65 standard, MagicOS with many new gestures and the introduction of artificial intelligence into the OS.

Design

Honor 200 Lite, although it belongs to the Honor 200 series, is not at all similar to its “older” brothers. Honor 200 Lite has a completely different design, which has nothing in common with the basic and pro-models. If you pay attention to the dimensions of the case, components and design of the front panel, you can understand that Honor 200 Lite is an improved version of the Honor X8b smartphone, which is extremely popular in Belarus . The dimensions of the two devices are identical, even the thickness of 6.78 mm and weight of 166 g in the new smartphone remained the same as in the X8b, despite the visible changes in the design. Honor 200 Lite is available in three colors – Starry Blue, Cyan Lake and Midnight Black.

The smartphone’s special feature is its durability, you don’t have to worry if the phone slips out of your hands: the Honor 200 Lite is shockproof and has received a five-star SGS certificate, which guarantees protection against falls from a height of up to 1.5 meters. Such high durability is achieved thanks to a well-thought-out design with an I-shaped matrix structure, shock-absorbing materials and reinforced alloy corners.

Display

The Honor 200 Lite screen is one of the things that is praised the most and you can’t even tell that the model is considered a budget one. The smartphone received a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 × 2412, a pixel density of 394 ppi, and a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz. There are no changes compared to the Honor X8b. But the most important thing is that the X8b has adopted the thinnest symmetrical frames. Thanks to them, the screen occupies 93.7% of the front panel, thereby overtaking many flagships in this indicator.

One of the key features of the display is its brightness. Manually, the brightness can be increased to 580 nits, in HBM mode (maximum brightness mode) it reaches 1200 nits, and when viewing HDR content, the peak brightness is all 2000 nits in certain areas of the screen.

Honor has paid special attention to protecting users’ eyesight. The display supports 3240Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, which reduces eye strain. In addition, it has implemented 7-dimensional eye protection, including TÃœV Rheinland flicker-free and low blue light certification, dynamic dimming, circadian mode, and 4096 levels of brightness adjustment.

Camera

The Honor 200 Lite has the same camera as the Honor X8b. The main 108 MP camera with an f/1.75 aperture takes great photos regardless of the lighting. It is complemented by a 5 MP wide-angle camera with depth sensing function (f/2.2) and a 2 MP macro camera (f/2.4), which expands the user’s creative possibilities.

As with the older models, special emphasis is placed on the portrait mode and functions that are related to artificial intelligence. The rear camera supports three focal lengths for portraits (1x, 2x, 3x), allowing you to experiment with composition and bokeh. The 3x mode is especially suitable for close-ups, focusing on facial details. The camera also supports various shooting modes, including night mode, panorama, HDR and ultra macro, which gives users a wide scope for creativity.

The 50MP front camera deserves special attention. Not only does it take high-quality photos, but it also has an AI Wide-angle Selfie mode that automatically switches between a 78° viewing angle for regular selfies and a 90° angle for group photos.

Performance and uptime

The MediaTek Dimensity 6080 processor with an eight-core configuration (2 Cortex-A76 cores with a frequency of 2.4 GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of 2.0 GHz), used in the Honor 200 Lite, became the main difference from the X8b. The graphics processor here is Mali-G57 MC2 with a clock frequency of 950 MHz. For demanding games, such a configuration will be weak, but the processor allows you to easily cope with most everyday tasks. In AnTuTu, the smartphone scores about 420 thousand points.

The device is available in configurations with 8GB or 12GB of RAM, both versions have 256GB of internal storage. Honor has also implemented RAM Turbo technology, which can expand the effective RAM to 20GB (12GB physical + 8GB virtual), which should improve multitasking and work with demanding applications.

The Honor 200 Lite is equipped with a 4500 mAh battery. Although this is not the largest battery, its autonomy should be sufficient for most users. At the same time, the kit includes a charger with the proprietary HONOR Super Charge system with a power of 35 W, which means that the smartphone will charge quickly if necessary.

The shell here is its own, MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14. There is no point in listing all the functionality of the operating system and it is better to try it yourself, but some things are worth mentioning. The Magic Portal function allows you to completely change the interface with one swipe. The cutout in the screen, which is called Magic Capsule, is also used interestingly. It works almost like Dynamic Island in the iPhone, displaying various elements of the system.

Conclusion

The Honor 200 series offers devices for different needs and budgets. The flagship Honor 200 Pro stands out with its powerful camera and high performance. The basic Honor 200 boasts excellent value for money. The Honor 200 Lite offers the necessary set of features at an affordable price.

Improved cameras, modern processors and striking design make the 200 series a worthy choice in the smartphone market of 2024. Regardless of the model, users will receive a reliable device with up-to-date technologies and signature Honor quality, while having the opportunity to choose the most suitable option in terms of functionality and price.
