The new iPhone 16 model’s highlights include new features such as a new ” camera control ” button , action button , and support for the upcoming Apple Intelligence .
This time, we’d like to introduce five new features that may not have received much attention when they were released.
1. MagSafe charging is now faster
Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus can be charged using either a wired USB Type-C or MagSafe wireless charging.
The wired charging speed remains the same as the iPhone 15, at ” up to 50% charge in about 30 minutes ,” but MagSafe performance has been improved. MagSafe charging is now up to 25W for the iPhone 16, up from a maximum of 15W for the iPhone 15 .
There were rumors that “wired charging will support up to 45W,” but in fact there has been no official statement to that effect.
By the way, the price of the MagSafe charger (1m) at the Apple Store is 6,480 yen including tax.
2. Faster Wi-Fi
All iPhone 16 series models are equipped with Wi-Fi 7 , enabling smoother Wi-Fi communication. However, this assumes that you have the internet speed and router to take advantage of it.
Wi-Fi 7 has transfer speeds of up to 46Gbps, which is five times faster than Wi-Fi 6. Wi-Fi 7 also operates on 320MHz channels and supports the 6GHz band, which means there is much less interference and signal congestion.
In short, this means less delay and more stable, smoother communication.
3. Screen Brightness
Even when you turn the brightness all the way down, your screen can still be too bright, and the iPhone 16 now has a much lower minimum brightness adjustment of 1 nit.
However, looking at reviews on social media, it seems that many people still find it too bright in dark places. By the way, you can lower the screen brightness by going to “Accessibility” → “Display and text size” → “Reduce white point” in the Settings app. If you want to switch frequently, it’s a good idea to register it as a shortcut.
4. Supports macro photography
The macro photography feature, which was first introduced on the iPhone 13 Pro, was previously limited to the Pro model and not available on the standard iPhone, but the iPhone 16 finally comes with macro photography capabilities using the ultra-wide-angle camera .
The default resolution is 24MP, but you can change it up to 48MP (minimum 12MP) in the settings.
5. Shooting for Apple Vision Pro
The iPhone 16 has a vertical camera arrangement, which was designed to take spatial photos and videos to be viewed with Apple Vision Pro.
The spatial photo and video capture feature was introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro, but now it has more support for spatial photos, including the ability to capture depth-of-field effects.
